It had been 24 years. 24 years since I last attempted the climb to Fall Mountain, a 12,000 foot peak on the northern edge of Rocky Mountain National Park, from a base at Sky Ranch, an ELCA camp west of Ft. Collins, Colorado where I worked one summer while in seminary. […]

During our most recent door-knocking effort, we met a number of our neighbors in North Liberty, & in the process, a few observations were worth sharing. First, I was quite surprised at the number of folks who didn’t realize that Holy Trinity existed. We have, after all, received some significant visibility […]

As we continue our Lenten journey together, it’s important to remember that this is a season of reflection, looking inward, and soul-searching. It’s a season of looking intently toward […]

The Gospel lessons from these early weeks of the Epiphany season have served to send a suitable challenge to those of us blessed to be part of “mission congregations.” Such a moniker is a bit misleading, as every congregation faithful to its calling is to be engaged in the mission of […]

Earlier this fall, I had a few disciples among us approach me with questions about future plans for building. Specifically, some were struggling with worshipping in “a place that didn’t look like church.” Let me begin by saying how much I appreciated the honesty of their questions, and their hunger for a sacred […]

[ December 8, 2008; ] I’m deeply moved and grateful for your expressions of congratulations shared last Sunday, marking the occasion of the 20th anniversary of my ordination into this ministry of Word and Sacrament. Hard to believe that so much time has already gone by, but Oh, what a privilege it’s been! I say that especially because Lisa […]

The above captures our mission statement, is the name of our upcoming congregation-wide focus on being gifted by God, and is also the core content of a great book by Dr. Mark Allan Powell, which we hope and pray that […]
